The History & Benefits of Reiki

Reiki is an ancient holistic healing practice that uses energy to heal the mind and body. It has been used in Japan for centuries but is now gaining popularity worldwide. Reiki can help with physical and mental health issues, such as stress, fatigue, chronic pain, and depression. It works by channeling the natural life force energy that flows through all living things and using that energy to promote healing.

The history of reiki dates back to the late 1800s when it was developed in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui, who was a Buddhist monk, was inspired by ancient Buddhist and Hindu teachings to develop a healing system that could help people improve their physical, mental, and spiritual health. He spent many years studying and experimenting and eventually developed his own technique called Usui Reiki Ryoho. He taught it to a small number of students, who continued to spread the practice of reiki throughout the world.

Reiki is performed by having the recipient sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Once the recipient is relaxed, the practitioner will lightly place their hands on or just above the body’s main energy centers, such as the head, heart, and stomach. As they are doing this, they will focus on directing healing energy from the practitioner to the person receiving the Reiki.

The practitioner might then move their hands over the body in a circular motion and often use certain hand positions to work with the body’s seven chakras or energy centers. As this process progresses, the recipient is encouraged to relax their mind letting thoughts come and go without attaching any judgment.

Scientific research on the benefits of reiki healing is now becoming more common. Studies have shown that reiki can help reduce symptoms of stress and depression, improve sleep, and reduce pain associated with diseases such as Fibromyalgia. Additionally, reiki can improve the quality of life for people with chronic illnesses. Researchers have also found that it may help improve immune system functioning and reduce inflammation.
